Highlife pioneer Pat Thomas has music in his DNA: his father was a music theory instructor and his mother was a bandleader. Born in Agona, Ghana in 1946, Thomas’ early inspiration to become a singer was Ghana’s own pop idol, Joss Aikins. Since then, he has become a superstar himself and one of the most prominent figures in the highlife genre. With Pat’s musical career dating back to the 1960s, the Kwashibu Area Band – formed some five years ago – is the latest in a long line of Thomas’s impressive group collaborations.
