Lisa O’Neill

Lisa O’Neill’s new LP, Heard a Long Gone Song, is an exceptional album – a mix of thoroughly captivating self-written and traditional songs, which are uncompromising and spectacularly soul-shaking. Her previous three albums (2009’s Has an Album, 2013’s Same Cloth or Not, 2016’s Pothole in the Sky) were self-released and showed a brilliant and resolute talent but Heard A Long …, (on the new Rough Trade imprint River Lea), sees her take yet another step forward. Her performances are as eclectic as they are authentic and the songs are stripped raw, rough and beautiful. The new material shows her as a unique voice, a mould-breaker – just listen to the wonderful, “Along The North Strand”, which moves from love song to murder ballad over the course of its eight minutes.
