British-based funk pioneers Cymande emerged as innovators in the UK music scene during the early 1970s. Back in 1973, Cymande made history by becoming the first British-based band to perform at the World-renowned Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. Defining their sound as nyah-rock, their music conveys a true spirit of unity; influenced by their Caribbean roots, the band combines reggae and Rastafarian ideals and rhythms with funk, soul, R&B, jazz, and rock to create a new and exciting sound that has been captivating audiences around the world since then.
Their latest album A Simple Act of Faith is an absolute joy to listen to and has capped off an array of Festival performances including Mostly Jazz, Funk & Soul, Camp Bestival and Bestival in the UK as well as a run of shows in London and across many parts of Europe. We can’t wait to welcome them to Larmer Tree this Summer.
