Mark Steel became a stand-up way back in 1982, doing the circuit of bizarre gigs – going on after jugglers and escapologists and people that banged nails into their ear. Then came the Comedy Store and Jongleurs followed by a regular slot on BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends. These days he’s renowned as a comedian, broadcaster, newspaper columnist and author.  Well known for his left-wing beliefs he has made many appearances on radio and television shows as a guest panelist, and has written regular columns in The Guardian and The Independent. Best known for presenting The Mark Steel LecturesThe Mark Steel RevolutionThe Mark Steel Solution and Mark Steel’s in Town where he commits to performing a routine about the history of every town he’ll perform in, sometimes unearthing all sorts of unusual reactions!

We’re looking forward to welcoming him to the ARC stage as our Friday night headliner.

“He’s a man with a passionate desire to communicate his ideas, who is also very funny” The Guardian.
