Singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin started out like many other musicians, uploading videos of her covers on YouTube and letting her fan base grow from there. After signing a recording deal with Parlophone in February 2012 and recording her debut album, she gained huge mainstream attention the following November when she was selected to record the soundtrack for John Lewis television commercial with a cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s The Power of Love, which reached No 1 on the UK Singles Chart.

Debut album English Rain was released in May 2013 to critical acclaim. Bringthenoiseuk said, “English Rain is an absolutely outstanding piece of musicianship taking you through a mix of emotions with each listen, from the melancholic ballads to the folk numbers that will soundtrack our summers.” It peaked at number two on the UK Album Chart and led to several more singles; Please Don’t Say You Love Me, Panic Cord, Home and Salvation.

She is now one of the hottest artists around, and her sweet toned vocals and girl-next-door charm. Her songs have been used many times in films and TV such as The Vampire Diaries, Resurrection, The Little Prince and Brooklyn. Recent album Light Up The Dark was inspired by Joni Mitchell. “Her voice is just here, right at the front, and everything sits around it perfectly,” Gabrielle says, “I’ve become much more comfortable writing songs about other people’s stories as well as my own, much of which is inspired by travelling and everything I’ve seen since my first album.”
