Calexico are a Tucson, Arizona-based Americana, Tex-Mex, indie rock band. For the better part of two decades, eight albums, and countless trips around the globe, Joey Burns and John Convertino have crossed musical barriers with their band, embracing a multitude of diverse styles, variety in instrumentation, and well-cultivated signature sounds. Named after a town on the California/Mexican border their musical style is influenced by traditional Latin sounds of mariachi, conjunto, cumbia, tejano, as well as country, jazz, and post-rock. The band were described by laweekly.com as “desert noir.” In May 2011, their song Slowness was dedicated to astronaut Mark Kelly by his wife as the wake up song aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour on its final flight.
